My last trip on my special Air Canada ticket was to the Queen Charlotte Islands. I have always wanted to go there
as their beauty is well known. Also, I have a cousin, Lois Zimmerman and her family that live in Port Clements.
While on the flight to Sandspit I again had a very interesting visit with the lady, named Sazacha Red Sky, who sat next to me. She was from Vernon and was the adopted daughter of one of the elder ladies on the islands. She was coming back to the Charlottes for her funeral. She told me her mother's very interesting life story.

The beauty of the islands greeted us right away. This is at the ferry landing. You see, the airplane flies into Sandspit on Moresby Island and then I took a bus to the ferry landing to go to Graham Island where Port Clements is. My cousin, Lois was there to meet me on the other side.

On our way back to Port Clements from the Ferry landing Lois and I stopped at Balancing Rock. You can see the rock on the top left of the picture - balancing on the rocky beach. Cool looking rounds rocks too.

Here's a pic giving you a perspective as to how big this balancing rock is.

Lois and I - cousins - we even look alike, don't you think?

In the small town of Port Clements David and Lois are planning to build a new home on this site. They will have a view of the bay from their home.

Currently they are renting this home in Port Clements.

It was cold weather while I was there visiting. There was even snow. This is the bay at Port Clements.

While Lois and I were out walking we saw many bald headed eagles. They truly are magnificent creatures.

Lois is on the right, me in the middle and then on the left is my friend from childhood, named Colleen. She and I grew up in Telkwa. It was a treat to be able to visit with her. She and her husband have raised their family in Port Clements.

One of the days that I was there David took a day off work and David, Lois and I drove up to the north of the island. You can see some of the beauty in the moss covered trees.

The ground was just carpeted in moss - incredible.

We were on our way to Tow Hill. This beach is way up north and open to the ocean.

This is David, Lois' husband. I greatly enjoyed being able to spend time with him. David is a down to earth kind of guy. He's quite amazing. You know that old movie "Fiddler on the Roof" and how there is a scene where Reb Teviah says that he wishes that he could spend all day in the gates of the city to read the holy scriptures and discuss them with the elders of the town. While I have to say that David gave me a new appreciation for the holy scriptures. His knowledge of the Hebrew and old testament scriptures just thrilled me. I have to say that I felt like I was a traveller who had travelled a far distance to sit at the feet of a holy teacher. We had many pots of tea in the evenings and he shared many of his gems of knowledge of the scriptures. He sparked a new interest in all the difficult things in scripture. He wasn't afraid to discuss and answer some of the difficult questions. Yes, it was great to get to know David even better than I had before.

The ocean is so beautiful.

Tow Hill

It was very cold on the north shore and there was even ice on the rocks.

Lois and I drove to this beach called Misty Meadows. It was a windy cool day. This was really neat as you could feel the mist and the wind was soooo strong.

This shows the mist and the wind for you.

beautiful eh?

I never tire of the beauty of the ocean in all its moods.

Lois and I went for a walk to the local estuary.

The tide was out and this shows how shallow the bay is.

The path was beautiful and the rich moss was seen everywhere.

I think that moss is so cool looking.

This is the view into the bay that Port Clements is situated on.

At the airport at Sandspit they have this carving. I had a bit of time before my flight back home so I walked around the bay a bit. This was a wonderful trip to the Islands - Thanks to David and Lois and their family.
